Home, I’m Darling

Written by Laura Wade
Directed by Heather Bradford

Cupcakes, cocktails and a clean home – one woman’s quest to be the exemplary 1950s housewife.

Judy revels in her life lived in the past, as a 1950s angel of the house. Every morning, she runs her husband Johnny’s bath, cooks his breakfast, packs his lunchbox, waving him off to work as an estate agent. Judy is happy. Johnny is utterly content. That is, until the arrival of her friend Fran, bringing a note of disquiet into Judy’s domestic idyll.

Director Heather Bradford said: “Laura Wade’s dark comedy challenges our ideas about nostalgia, gender roles and the illusion of a perfect 1950s existence, asking if Judy’s sugar-drenched life is as sweet as she insists it is.”

Playwright and screenwriter Laura Wade has won two Olivier Awards, including Best Comedy for Home, I’m Darling in 2019. In 2022, she was announced as writer/producer for the Disney+ series Rivals, based on the novel by Jilly Cooper.
