Vardy v Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial

No press, no public, just the witnesses, their barristers and the judge were privy to the actual proceedings in 2022 of the action brought against Coleen Rooney by Rebekha Vardy, both famous footballers’ wives. After the full court documents were released, Liv Hennessey used the actual words of the trial to create her fun take on the perils of modern-day social media.
The play is presented in the style of a football match. The main characters are true to life, but keeping the proceedings moving along are two fictional pundits giving match highlights, commentary and summaries of the state of play as it goes along.
We know where the verdict went, but the play brings out the humanity and humour from the 7 day trial and as one critic put it “It’s an excellent take on a contemporary media circus.”
Breaking with their normal theatre layout at the Ballard Performing Arts Centre, New Forest Players will be inviting the audience to take their seats in an arena setting. However, seats can still be reserved in advance via the box office at:- newforestplayers.com or 01425 542414.
The ‘match’ kicks off on Tuesday 17th February and then runs for three performances, 18th, 19th and 20th all at 7.30pm, plus a matinee performance 2.30pm on Saturday 21st February.
